The concrete that proved the most challenging was the sign in the parking lot. A portion of the building exterior, as well as the bollards in front of the building, were a light-colored precast. The project engineer wanted the sign to match the precast elements but opted to use cast-in-place concrete instead.

In order to match the very light appearance of the precast we had to bring in a load of white cement from Illinois and a load of manufactured sand made from limestone because the local sand we use on a day to day basis was too dark. A touch of concrete pigment was also needed to obtain the desired results. Norwalk Ready Mix made trial batches to figure out the right color proportions to use and eventually we came up with one that matched perfectly. The engineer was very pleased, as are we, of the final product.
